Pulling Your Own Wagon

I heard a GREAT call the other evening. Great because it espoused, and embraced an important business building principle, a success or failure truth if you will.

YOU MUST SEEK TO RECRUIT BUILDERS AND LEAVE THOSE WHO YOU HAVE RECRUITED WHO ARE CLEARLY NOT BUILDERS BEHIND!

In fact until you are willing to do that, you will continue to fail! This principle is one that only a few brave leaders put forth, and you can see why. It would not be very popular in our present, “ You do not have to do ANYTHING!” networking society.

Many leaders are afraid to put it forth. Why? Because it can be, and is, misunderstood, “It seems rather cold and calculating to me.” She was clearly about to institute a ‘Pity Party’ in behalf of those left behind.

My friend has tried the business several dozen times. (She was visiting me that night, and listened in.)
Hummm, I, said to myself. “I guess you would rather fail.” And then I thought, “Well of course you would, it is a ‘pattern’ you’ve played out repeatedly over the years and you are comfortable with it. It reaffirms your belief that Networking, doesn’t work. Now you are free to quit! You can now say, “ There, see, I’ve proven it!”

Am I upset with my friend? Not really, this is just WHO she is and I accept that. She is a great party pal and expert ‘shop till you drop’ advocate!

What is the moral?
What is the moral of this important Business Building principle?
Pulling Your Wagon With ALL These Occupants Can Drag You down! AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, IT JUST DOESN’T WORK!”

Picture this if you will, YOU must get your wagon full of goods to the top of the hill. If you don’t you won’t get paid! All along the way up the hill as you pull your wagon, you meet people who SAY they want they want to join you in this business enterprise, and that they will work with you. They too will take the trip up the hill with their wagon.

But one by one they get tired of pulling their respective wagons. Basically they never take the time to learn how to pull their wagon properly. (Never used the back office training, in fact, never took ANY training etc. Although they did buy some business cards.)

SO, eventually, they tie their wagon to yours and climb aboard your wagon with the intentions of ‘riding awhile with you’. After all you are their sponsor, right? (So, they purchase products, get their website and set and wait for a miracle.)

Meanwhile YOU are pulling your wagon with THEIR wagon attached all alone, and naturally they are riding your wagon of course.

The load gets heavier.
Meanwhile your wagon is getting heavier and heavier, and you are getting weaker and weaker. In fact you are so worn out from pulling and pulling and begging your passengers to get out and pull their own wagons for a change that you have no strength or breath left to try and recruit and care for those who you pass on the way up the hill who might just be the ‘real thing’.

You begin to realize that your chances of reaching the top of the hill with the present load you are carrying are less then nil.

NOW, DOES LEAVING THOSE WHO REALLY DO NOT WANT TO BUILD THE BUSINESS BEHIND, BEGIN TO MAKE SENSE TO YOU?


Yes, NOW the ‘light goes on’ as you see that this is after all really about the possibility of realizing your dream!

And as you work to realize YOUR dream, being joined by those who REALLY want to realize THEIR dream. Those who realize that WORKING for their dream is a PRIME necessity!

It is an amazingly coherent principle when illustrated properly isn’t it?

Am I implying you do NOTHING for those who ride and slide? NO! Continue to communicate 10% of your time with them, and spend 90% of your time with your leaders!

In other word's show recognition for EVERYONE'S purchases, birthdays, anniversaries etc. Maintain touch, but WORK WITH THE WORKERS! Send regular emails to all, new information to all, and commendations for a job well-done to all etc. Your leaders in turn will do the same, and your organization will grow.

This is what is termed, the 'harsh reality' of successful networking!
NETWORKING IS WORK!
